The Lions at Wright Park

Installed in 1892, this pair of lion statues originally lined the entrance to Wright Park where Yakima avenue once cut through from 6th to division. They were purchased by Tacoma businessman Clinton P. Ferry in 1891 as part of an effort to introduce classical European art to the public, along with the two dancing girls and the “fisherman’s daughter” statues which all remain in the park to this day. The lions were restored and placed on new marble mounts in 2009 and now are proud guardians of the bowling green lawn.
