Stadium High School
Built in 1891 as a hotel that was never completed, this French-Chateau style building was damaged by fire and stood vacant for years before the City of Tacoma purchased it in 1905. The building was rescued from the wrecking ball and converted to a uniquely beautiful high school in 1906. The spectacular Stadium Bowl was opened in 1909 and the name of the school was changed from Tacoma High to Stadium High School in 1913. Stadium Bowl has hosted such notables as Presidents Theodore and Franklin Roosevelt And Warren G. Harding. Popular performers such as John Philip Sousa and Bob Hope have appeared there, marking milestones in the 100+ year history of this spectacular landmark.
